This calculator uses a disclosed editorial convention: common U.S. ranges through Millennials, Gen Z 1997–2012, Gen Alpha 2013–2024, and Gen Beta from 2025 onward. The Alpha/Beta boundary is provisional. This combination is not a single research organization’s official standard. Generation depends on birth year; month and day let us validate the full birthday.

Where the dates come from

The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen X, and Millennial boundaries follow familiar U.S. conventions. For Gen Z, we use 1997–2012, the range also used by Statistics Canada. Pew’s 2019 explanation establishes the 1997 start; it does not set Gen Z’s final year.

Our choices for Alpha and Beta

Statistics Canada uses Gen Z 1997–2012 and Alpha from 2013. McCrindle instead uses Alpha 2010–2024. We retain 2010–2012 within Gen Z and disclose the alternative.

We use Alpha for 2013–2024 and Beta from 2025 onward. This combines definitions to provide one continuous timeline. It is an editorial choice, not one organization’s official standard.

Gen Beta is an emerging label. We use McCrindle’s proposed 2025 starting year, with no fixed future endpoint in the calculator. McCrindle’s full proposed range is 2025–2039.

What the calculator does

Your birth year determines your result. Month and day let us check that your birthday is valid and is not in the future. After validation, the calculator opens the matching generation profile. Only the generation name appears in the page URL. We accept valid birthdays from January 1, 1901 through today. There is no account, and entered birthdays are not stored or sent to a server by this site.

1901 is the lower limit supported by this calculator. Pew’s historical table groups 1927 and earlier as the Greatest generation; it does not establish 1901 as a universal boundary.

Geography and uncertainty

These labels are most familiar in the United States and other English-speaking countries. Experiences vary within every cohort and around the world. A generation name does not predict personality, values, or life outcomes.
